United Breaks Guitars
It's interesting, through the frustration of Dave Carroll, we see ourselves in different circumstances. It's not just about how indifferent the airlines can be. It's about how indifferent so many 'corporations' can be. We've all had similar experiences, in different magnitudes, in different places, with different products and services.
It's like talking to a wall. The core of the frustration, we, the individual feel, in these circumstances is the realization that they have no problem with us being responsible and giving them our money for the services they say they will provide, they have a problem if they don't deliver reasonable expected service and paying us back.
It's the double standard that makes us so angry, so upset, so disturbed, so frustrated. Why are they allowed to smile and take our money, but when they definitely screw up, and we want our money back, they act as if we are terrible people and are trying to hurt their precious corporation, that really does not care about us at all. They just care about our money.
It sort of reminds us of when, after 9/11 United Airlines was whining about not having enough money to stay afloat and looking for yet another government bailout and asking all the employees to sacrifice their salary, and then, their CEO is found out that he is taking a 10,000,000 dollar a year raise!
If his raise was 10,000,000, what the hell was his salary?
The hypocrisy illustrates a particular type of insanity, and also the reality that people are really brainwashed. We are brainwashed into thinking that we are bad people if we want to get what we pay for. This truly is insane! So while they are at fault, we also need to realize that we are enabling this somehow. It's just hard to pinpoint it.
Is it the fact that we are just idiots? Or we have been hypnotized into believing that corporations are more important than people?

United Breaks Guitars (Lyrics)
Verse 1
I flew united airlines on my way to Nebraska
the plane departed Halifax
connecting in Chicago's O'hare
Verse 2
While on the ground a passenger said
from the seat behind me
my god their throwing guitars out there.
Verse 3
The band and I exchanged a look
best described as terror at the action on the tarmac
and knowing whose projectiles these would be.
Verse 4
And so before I left Chicago
I alerted three employees
who showed complete indifference towards me.
Chorus
United, you broke my Taylor guitar
United, some big help you are
you broke it you should fix it
your liable just admit it
I should have flown with someone else
or gone by car
cause United breaks guitars
Verse 5
When we landed in Nebraska
I confirmed what I'd suspected
my Taylor been the victim of a viscous act of malice at O'Hare
Verse 6
And so began a year long saga
of pass the buck don't ask me
and I'm sorry sir your claim can go nowhere
Verse 7
So to all the airlines people
from New York to new Delhi
including the kind miss Erlwig
who says the final word from them is no
Verse 8
I've heard all your excuses
and I've chased your wild gooses
and this attitude of yours I say must go
Chorus
United, you broke my Taylor guitar
United, some big help you are
you broke it you should fix it
your liable just admit it
I should have flown with someone else
or gone by car
cause United breaks guitars
Bridge
Well I won't say that I'll never fly with you again cause maybe
To save the world I'd probably
But that won't likely happen
And if it did I wouldn't bring my luggage
cause you'd just go and break it
into a thousand pieces
just like you broke my heart
when United breaks guitars
Chorus
United, you broke my Taylor guitar
United, some big help you are
you broke it you should fix it
your liable just admit it
I should have flown with someone else
or gone by car
cause United breaks guitars
Yeah United breaks guitars
Yeah United breaks guitars
